Q&A with Ross
Describe yourself as a basketball player in under 30 words:
Reasonable three point ability, utility player, I often walk off the court not having scored much but having contributed a lot. I like to run the court hard.
How long have you been playing basketball?
A season here, a season there since about year 7 in high school (17 years) but never consistently due to living out in the middle of the sticks for most of my life.
How did you find out about, and eventually come to joining the Hulkamaniacs?
I played on a former incarnation of the Hulkamaniacs with Adam, Luke and Jay and we won a really good premiership together. I heard about the current team through Jay(son).
What's been your favourite game and/or career highlight as a "Hulkamaniac"?
Either the night I scored 12 points a few weeks ago or our win against the Camels - I didn't score a point, but was happy with how I played anyway.
From a team point of view, do any wins stand out?
All of them. I love to win.
Your most disappointing Hulkamaniacs moment?
Any time I get blocked or picked off - I hate this more than anything. Otherwise, disappointments have been rare.
Do you play any other sports?
Currently I play mixed Netball but in the recent past I have played cricket, hockey, soccer, archery and a couple of martial arts including Ashi Hara Karate and Aikido.
Your favourite NBA team and/or player?
Historically and currently I have always followed the Detroit Pistons - ever since the NBA started telecasting into Australia on the ABC late Friday nights. This was just before they won back-to-back titles ('89-'90).
My favourite player is Isaiah Thomas who inspired me when I watched him score 16 points in 90 seconds to win a game off his own back.
Currently, my favourite players are Ben and Rasheed Wallace. Just for the record I used to absolutely HATE the Chicago Bulls, but I loved the games between them and the Pistons because they were always passionate and everyone tried so hard on the court.
If you could draft one player from any league to suit up with the Hulkamaniacs, who would it be?
Probably Ben Wallace or Kevin Garnett. Someone who could dominate inside and let all us wannabe height challenged guards do our thing.
