Black Howler monkeys are the loudest monkey of all the species. They are the largest of the New World monkeys. Howlers live high in the trees (called a canopy) found in rainforests. These forests may be located in:


Adult male Howlers have a blackish brown fur color while the females and baby monkeys have a lighter color. Howler monkeys may grow to be 2-4 feet tall and weigh 8-22 pounds. Their lifespan consists of 20 years.

2. Each Howler in its social group has its own territory. The size of the territory depends upon the size of the group.

3. Howlers are known as Baboons.

4. Howlers defend their territory by "howling" and making the loudest noise in the tropical rainforest.

6. The only other animal that is louder than the Howler monkey is the Blue Whale.

7. Howlers are an endangered species. They are threatened by hunting and habitat destruction.

8. Females give birth to only one baby monkey at a time.

9. Their predators include large birds such as the eagle.

10. A Howler's call may be heard up yo 3 miles away!.
