| Frequently Asked Questions 1. What will my child be learning this year? Answer: Students will study life science according to the California State Standards for 7th grade Life Science. 2. How can I check to see how my child is doing in science? Answer: There are two ways for parents to keep up with how their child is doing in science. The first way is to sign up for Parent Connect. You can access your student's grades for every class through this site. The second way to keep track of your child's assignments is to have me send home a weekly progress report with your student on Fridays. (If you want a weekly report, please send me an e-mail stating your name and your child's name and I will add it to the weekly list.) 3. How much homework will my child have in science? Answer: 7th grade is a very difficult year academically. I do not give homework very often. My goal is to have the students work diligently during class to avoid having homework. If your child is bringing home science homework frequently, they are not using class time wisely. If they do not have a passing grade, the same applies--they are not working in class. 4. Does my child have to bring his/her book to school every day? Answer: No, only when asked to. 5. How can I contact the teacher? Answer: You can call the school at 289-7900 ext. 1162 or you can e-mail me at home or school. 6. How is my child graded? Answer: The grades are weighted in four categories: classwork, warm-ups, tests/quizzes, and projects. See my class policy page under grading policies for exact details. |

| IMPORTANT THINGS FOR 2007-08 Interactive Notebooks: The 7th grade science department will use a spiral notebook this year. It will contain all of the class assignments as well as notes. This was very successful for students last year. Each teacher will provide the students with their first notebook. If they lose it, they MUST replace it. Lab Fee: This year we are asking parents to pay a $5 lab fee for the year. The science department is given $1.20 per student to purchase all of the materials necessary to run a classroom as well as conduct experiments. This year we are asking for $5 up front to help differ some of our personal costs to run an interactive program. |
