My name is Laura Taylor. This will be my 24th year of teaching. During my career, I have taught in grades 1 - 8 and done some substituting in high school. But I must say that my "love" is middle school. This is my 11th year teaching at Anacapa Middle School in the science department and my 6th year as the AVID teacher and Coordinator. I have my Master's Degree in educational technology . I love my job and my students.
I was born and raised in San Diego. We moved to Ventura County 14 years ago and have never regretted it for a minute. I am a widow of 7 years. I have two sons, Jesse 20, and Graham 16. Jesse is a junior at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego and Graham is a junior at Ventura County Christian School. They are my greatest joy in life. I have two dogs, Rudy (a Yorkie) and Angel (a golden lab).
My hobbies are skiing, reading, scrapbooking, drinking coffee, laughing, going to the beach and traveling. I have been in 40 of the 50 states (Alaska and Hawaii included) and visited 8 countries in Europe. In October of 2004, I had the opportunity to travel to Uganda, Africa and work in a private school in the "bush." It definitely was a life changing experience. In November of 2005, my youngest son & I went to New Orleans to do Katrina clean-up. In May of the same year, my oldest son went to Mississippi to do re-building for Katrina victims. Our family has been blessed and is grateful for the chance to help others. We are always looking for an opportunity to serve other people.
This past summer we did several things as a family. We stayed at our favorite beach, Faria for a week in a house, went to a Family Reunion in Salt Lake City over the 4th of July, I went to a conference to San Diego, Graham went to Tecate, Mexico on a short missions trip to build a house for a family without one, Jesse taught an Algebra 1 class, and we all went to Lake Nacimiento for a week. We are planning a trip to Costa Rica to see my counsin soon. We love to travel and see the world.
