| 1) John Mayer: "Room for Squares" I love John Mayer, and this is the only CD of his that I've played so much that I had to buy a replacement because I played the first copy I had to shreads. An amazing artist and an amazing CD. You can't help but listen to "Your Body is a Wonderland" and not be happy. 2) Alanis Morissette: "Jagged Little Pill" I've loved this CD since it came out when I was 12 and I still love it. Alanis is one of the strongest women in rock, and her songs are great. The only reason why this isn't #1 is that her songs are a bit depressing for a deserted island. 3) Aerosmith: "Just Push Play" This band has been around for 25 years, and this late 90s release is probably their best work. Sure, "Dream On" and some of their older songs are awesome, but this album as a whole is their best. Every song on it kicks major rock ass, and is incredably fun. 4) Matchbox 20: "Yourself or Someone Like You" One of the best albums of the 90s. After my first listen to this CD, I knew these guys would be around for a long time. 5) Daft Punk: "Discovery" If I was on a deserted island, I'd want this CD because it's played in all my favorite stores (ie Express for Men), and I'd want to remember how fun shopping is. 6) "Avenue Q" Original Broadway Cast Ok, I had to thow a show in there, and this one's totally fun to sing along with. I mean, how can you not love lyrics like "Everyone's a little bit racist sometimes. Doesn't mean we go around commiting hate crimes..." 7) Justin Timberlake: "Justified" Yeah, I know it's very gay of me, but seriously, listen to the album. The guy has talent. 8) Elton John: "Greatest Hits: 1970-2002" Disc One It's so hard to pick just one of his albums, and this way I don't have to. And also, the first disc has his early work, such as "Your Song," "Levon" and "Tiny Dancer" and bypasses all of the older stuff, like everything he wrote for Disney. 9) Heather Headley: "This is Who I Am" She's not a huge R&B star yet, but she will be. This list needed a good, strong, female R&B voice, and Heather's got more maturity than Beyonce, and her album is full of great tracks, while Beyonce's falls flat half wy though. India Arie, Erikah Badu, Lauren Hill, and Jill Scott have some competition here. By the way, I met Ms. Headley, and she's incredably modest and sweet. If any artist deserves $15-$18 for a CD, she does. 10) Pink Floyd: "Dark Side of the Moon" I know this is considered one of the most important albums ever made, and I totally agree with that, but in my opinion it's not that interesting to listen to unless you're stoned and watching The Wizard of Oz while playing it. But if you are... |
