"What is your decision Ezra?" Cassie asked, "I have decided that I will do everything in my power to make you happy for the rest of your life, however long that is, I want you to marry me." He said, she could see the seriousness in his eyes, "Oh Ezra, I would love to marry you, but I can't, it wouldn't be fair to either of us, I love you too much to do that, can't we just spend what time I have left together, with no attachements, please?" She asked. Ezra sighed, "Whatever you want my Darlin, I only want you to be happy." He said. She saw the sadness in his eyes, it made her want to cry. She reached over and put her hand to his cheek, caressing it gently, his skin is so soft. He covered her had with his, then kissed her palm. He pulled her to him. "I do love you Cassie, as much pain as all this is, my life will be forever changed, for the better, because of you." He said as a tear ran down his cheek, she kissed the tear away, then moved to his mouth, kissing him gently at first, then letting her emotions take over and kissing him deeper. They bacame lost in each other, kissing so deeply it felt like their soul's were one.
The other's were watching Ezra and Cassie, they couldn't really hear what was being said, but they could see the emotions on their faces and the actions they took, the kiss was incredible to watch, they found that they all had tears in their eyes from watching. They hated that this was happening, the two of them were obviously in love and it was going to end so tragically. Buck and JD got up and left, they could not bare to watch any longer, it was too unfair. Chris and Vin just looked at each other, knowing Ezra was going to need a lot of support, after Cassie passed on. Josiah and Nathan both got up to leave too, they were going to work on the church, to take their minds off of this. Chris got up to go and tell Mary the news, she did not know yet.
Chris found Mary and Inez together, they saw the sorrow on his face and became very concerned, "What is wrong, Chris?" Mary asked, "It's about Cassandra, we found out 2 things today, one is that she is dying of a brain tumor." Chris said, both Mary and Inez gasped at the news, tears welling up in their eyes. "What? that can't be, she is like a sister to us." Inez said, "I am afraid it is true and the second bit of news makes this even more tragic." He said, "What? What is it?" Mary asked, feeling quite concerned now. "It would seem that she and Ezra have fallen deeply in love, he looked so sad when he came in the saloon, then when Cassie joined him, it got very interesting, we couldn't hear what was being said, but their actions and the kiss they shared said a lot." He said, both Mary and Inez looked positively heart broken. "This is just awful, do either of them need anything?" Inez asked, "Right now I think they just need to be alone together." Chris said.
When Chris returned to the saloon, Ezra and Cassie were gone, he had no idea where, but that was Ok, they needed to be alone. Ezra had taken Cassie to her room, she obviously needed rest, but as he got ready to leave Cassie stopped him, taking him in her arms, "Ezra, I don't think I could have gotten through all this without you, I am so thankful to have you in my life." She whispered, he held her tighter, "I am thankful that you came into my life as well." Then he encompassed her mouth wth his, drinking in her essence, her sweet smell filling his nose and washing over him, he never felt such love for any woman before, her essence filled his soul and made him feel whole and alive. Her kiss consumed him and took him away from reality. he could kiss her forever, but she needed her rest, so he pulled away. "You need rest, I will go now and let you sleep." He turned to leave, but Cassie said, "I don't want you to go, I want you to stay with me." She said, there was desire in her eyes, along with the pain, that she always felt now.
Ezra looked at Cassie, he really wanted to stay with her all night, but it was obvious she was tired. "I will stay a few minutes, but you need your sleep." Ezra said, "But I don't want sleep, I want you Ezra," She replied. He smiled at her, he wanted her too, but he was not going to be with her now, she was too weak, "I want you too Cassie, but not now, when your stronge." He moved back over to her and held her tight, he kissed her forehead, it was hot. He began to worry, she obviously had a fever, but she would not admit it. "You have a fever Darlin, that settles it. you are going to bed and get the sleep you need." He said in such a way that Cassie knew there would be no arguing with him. "But Ezra, I don't care about that, I need to be with you." She pleaded. "I know, but there is time for and I promise we will be together, but now you need sleep." He was moving her toward the bed as he spoke, then lowered her to it, pulling the covers over her, then gently kissed her, she grabbed his neck and pulled him deeper into the kiss, but he pulled away insistantly. "I will not do this Cassie, I have to insist that you get sleep, overdoing it will only shorten the time we have. so please get some sleep, for me?" He said, She nodded, he watched as she fell asleep almost immediately. He bent and placed a gentle kiss on her lips, then turned and left.

Ezra was to the bottom of the stairs when he ran into Casey, she had concern on her face. "Ezra, how is Cassie? Mary told me what is happening to her, is there anything I can do?" She asked, "Thank you Miss Wells, but she is sleeping now and I plan to do the same, I do appreciate the offer and I will let you know if we need anything." Ezra replied. Casey nodded and went on her way, Ezra walked out of the hotel, intending to go to his room, but instead he went to the livery and saddled his horse. He got on and rode off into the night, he needed to be alone to think about everything. He rode for almost an hour, then found the spot he was looking for, he planned to bring Cassie here, before she died, it was such a beautiful spot. He sat under a tree in the soft, late spring grass. His mind was jumbled with thoughts and emotions, he had never let his emotions get so out of control before. He pulled a pencil and paper out of his vest pocket and began to write a poem, he would bring Cassie here and read it to her, hopefully tomorrow, but not until she felt good enough.
Ezra had spent the whole night out there, he fell asleep in the grass, dreaming of Cassie, wishing that he could have her in his life forever, but knowing that was impossible. He had done a lot of thinking, trying to clear his mind of the jumbled mess that his emotions were in, he came to a few decisions that night, they were big decisions and he thought long and hard about them. He rode back to town at sunrise, not an hour he was usually familiar with, but that was when he woke up, so he figured he best get back to town. Once in town, he went to his room and freshened up, putting on clean clothes, wanting to feel refreshed. He could not wait to see Cassie, so he could tell her of his decisions.
Ezra sat in the lobby of the hotel, after having breakfast. He was drinking a cup of coffee with just a little whiskey in it, he wanted to be sober when he was with Cassie, she was his world right now. He was waiting for her to come down from her room, so he could talk to her, his decisions would make her happy in part, but he was certain that one of his decisions would not sit well with her, but he was going to be very insistent on this matter. He was glancing out the window, watching the rest of the town go about it's business, while he sat here feeling like the world was at a stand still. Suddenly he realized that someone was standing beside him, he turned and looked up, Cassie looked so much better than she did yesterday, he knew sleep was what she had needed, she actually looked more beautiful than ever too. Her deep blue eyes and long curly, blonde hair, both shown in the light, she looked like an angel.
Cassie looked at Ezra sitting there, looking out the window and deep in thought, she still couldn't get over how incredibly handsome he was, she felt warmth wash over her as she thought about him and her feelings for him, she still had wished he'd stayed last night, but she was glad that she got the sleep she did, because right now she felt better than she had in months. She watched Ezra turn and look at her, she smiled at him, she saw the love and desire in his eyes as he gazed upon her. She felt a little embarrassed as he continued to look at her with those incredible green eyes. She could almost feel his eyes looking into her soul, she began to get nervous, so she moved to him, hoping his intense gaze would soften. She sat next to him and took his hand. "Good morning Ezra, I am so glad you made me get some sleep last night, I feel better than I have in months." She said smiling. "I am so glad you are feeling good, I have plans for us today and I have made a few decisions that I need to tell you about," Ezra replied. Cassie got a little nervous at that statement, she was afraid that Ezra had decided not to be with her.
