Web Page Design Tips...
The much-awaited Windows ME has finally hit our stores. Long gone are the days of Windows 3.1 where the basic interface did little more than save word documents etc. If you're interested in Web Page design, Windows 98 and above include web wizard templates that can get you a site in minutes. I recommend using the web wizards to anyone who is starting out on the web and planning to design their own page. However once you have uploaded your page/s, you'll need to know basic HTML to edit your page. You can find many tutorials on the web, but one that I used in my early days as a web page designer was an interactive tutorial that can be found at
davesite.com. You'll need to host your page on something called a web server that acts basically the same as a hard drive. You can buy space on the web or simply opt for a free hosting company such as
geocities.com.

Making money on the web...
Firstly, if you have your own web site you can set up an affiliate program that enables you to earn commissions of around 7-20% of what people spend on a site (where you have supplied the link to that site). Another way is to set up a pay per click program where you host a advertising banner on a page on your site... when people click through, you earn anything from $0.01-$0.25 per click.
You could also set up your own virtual store, selling things to people from all over the world, then shipping them off to deliver straight at their door. However, this takes a high level knowledge of computer programming (html forms, cgi-bins etc) plus the hassle of product shipments. Web sites such as
amazon.com let you set up your own store where you earn commissions based on people you refer to their site and what things they buy. They also handle the programming and shipment etc...
If you don't have a web site and just surf the Internet, you can earn around $10 per month through a 'get paid while you surf' company such as alladvantage.com etc.

A 'new' service to be launched...
The group hardest to be made to pay on the Internet are teenagers a recent survey suggests. WorldOnlines new concept seems to be far better than the web 'currencies' like beenz and rools.com. This allows you to pay for web access in the same way as 'pay as you go' mobile phones. Cards can be purchased at a range of different prices and with your remaining balance you can buy goods online. It's called a Jalda account, we hear two cards will go on sale at the end of this year in the
UK.
It seems a good idea as you will know how much you have to spend and will not be hit with a huge Internet bill on your credit card. It also seems credit cards will not be needed, therefore youngsters could sign up and purchase things. This could be a market far all audiences, not just teenagers!

Napster the mp3 swap site is banned in roughly 34% of US colleges and universities? You'd think copyright would be the issue, but no. Students are crashing networks by downloading hundreds of titles to listen to whilst in lesson time.
