5' version of the newest midbass, can be made into alternate versions, 2 section, either can be conical/exponential (trying to get flat 90 to 500Hz & minimize size) data best/worst case normal (conical feeding exponential; 1pi vs 2pi) preliminary drawing 7/22/01 - I have decided to go with a midbass horn with a 4.5" round throat 67" long, 4' wide x 2' tall mouth; Hypex (Salmon) M factor of 0.6, pretty flat in 2 pi space from 90 to 500 Hz Excel spreadsheet: .html .xls 8/12/01In the interest of keeping my sanity and room to turn around in my living room, here's yet another midbass. Dave Dannesberger's TL56D-38 with mid/high stacked on it. He wanted a dual EVM18B cabinet tall enough to elevate his horns above head height. I found this in ProSoundFacts#7 I think he's got cabinetry chops! BoxPlot predicted response |

2/21/02 My home computer has died, here is a link to the LAB: subs.live-audio Due to the big ice storm I was without power or phone from 2/6 to 2/17 thanks to a neighbor I borrowed enough power (via a 75' 14/3 SJT cord) to run my gas fired furnace so I read a lot under a 20 watt fluorescent lamp |
8/7/2002 Michael Zhang's ML Util program has me rethinking my bass horns Here is a composite of 2 revisions: MCM 55-1880 and EVM10M the bass horn hits xmax at 35Hz/37 volts & the 10M is loafing at 20 volts (~40 watts) 9.6' throat on the sub, 42.5" midbass Feb 9th, 2003 Excel midbass file: Salmon III it includes phase plug dimensions drawing53 dwg53a dwg53b dwg53c dwg53d dwg53e |
11/19/02: I just bought 8 discontinued MCM 55-2325 10" bass drivers (2.5" VC, 175w RMS, vented 130 oz magnet, 12.5 mm Xmax) Simulations model it in the LAB12 horn as having a similar response but with about a half dB of ripple. Warning: it is cheaply made and would not survive portable use. I am thinking of building some 48" x 46" by 32.5" tall dual woofer driven horns with a 1.5 compression ratio (St=80in^2), Fc=25Hz, T=0.35, 3.45 meters of throat length folded up in it. I'm picturing a rear wall parallel but inset about 4 inches, expands twice along the side wall before the final mouth flare. drawing 51b, 51c, 51c2, 51c3 drawing 52a, 52b, 52c |
