Welcome, everyone! I've been online now about 10 years and I've had a lot of fun with my self-obsessed website: it's about my life, basically, which is a relatively quiet one, filled with family, friends, my cats, the internet and the small southern suburb I live in. I've never been married and have no children, but have 10 wonderful nieces and nephews. I was born in Detroit and lived in Michigan for the first years of my life living in Dearborn for nearly 10 years. When I finished the fifth grade, we moved to Farmington, Michigan, another suburb of Detroit, for another 11 years, when I moved out and got an apartment with my brother. I am one of six children, one brother and four sisters. Graduating from Farmington High School, I wasn't a particularly outstanding student, but my grades were respectable. I gave most of my enthusiasm, I'm afraid, to choir because I loved to sing so much. I took singing lessons for one year in high school, but never carried on with any further voice training after that. After going to beauty school I worked, not surprisingly, in a hair salon. However; life got much more interesting when I went to work for my dad's manufacturing plant. When I was in my early twenties most of my immediate family, that is Mom and Dad, my sisters, Carolyn, Debra, Kimberly and Jacki and brother-in-law, Matt and I moved to North Carolina and have resided here since then. (My late brother, Greg, and his wife, Linda, joined us eventually). I didn't like country music when I first came down here, but then I got a chance to sing occasionally in a lounge I went to and they played country music, so I learned to love it--at least the classic numbers I sang, mostly Patsy Cline. I don't hang around in bars any more, don't sing in public and don't listen to country music much anymore, but it was fun while it hung together! I feel an allegiance to both Michigan and North Carolina, a foot in the North and in the South you might say.
Now, let's talk about what I laughingly call my love life. In case you're wondering, I love men, but I'm afraid my life has been a series of failed romances. Some were fairly long commitments that just didn't work out somehow. Amazingly enough, I still hope to find that special someone to share my life. I'd like to meet a man someday who enjoys the mountains and ocean, cozy nights at home, takes some things in life seriously, but not himself, and prefers his movies and his women quick-witted and fast-talking. And if, by good fortune, he should like animals, old rock and roll, and be looking for someone zaftig with red hair, green eyes and a weird yet wonderful sense of humor to share his life, so much the better.
Meanwhile, a thumbnail sketch of me: I'm extremely partial to homecooked food at the holidays, crying at sad movies; silk handfans and tinkly windchimes; waterfalls and bookstores; the beach and the mountains; the smell of Wisteria and burning leaves; and the color green. I occasionally work on my two Yahoo! websites and currently blather away on 3 blogs. I enjoy dining out with family and friends, attending movies and theater, and listening to all kinds of music, especially musicals, oldies rock and roll from the 1960's and 1970's (even the fifties!). I can be an avid reader, but I tend to go in spurts of 4-6 day book binges; staying up all night, then weeks of no reading at all. I love to go shopping, whether for clothes, jewelry or gifts for other people, I sometimes go to cat shows with my sister-in-law and spend a lot of time with my talented and amusing family (no, I'm not prejudiced--we crack ourselves up). Another real interest is scrapbooking with Creative Memories; especially "heritage" type albums. After taking a class, I've recently begun making jewelry and I hope to have a new page up on that soon with photos.
Moving on, I live in a lovely suburban area of North Carolina, only about 90 minutes from the Smoky Mountains and about 4 or 5 hours from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I have journeyed to some wonderful places in the U.S. at different times in my life. Someday, I would like to make a driving trip to the home sites of Laura Ingalls Wilder, one of my favorite authors since childhood. Other trips I would like to take if I was able would be to return to Charleston, Atlanta, Tampa, Disney World and the Bahamas. I'd like to see Savannah, San Francisco and I have never been to Jamaica (how about a cruise?!). Really, driving almost anywhere in the US except in the middle of the dessert--"I don't like spiders and snakes"--sounds like a great vacation to me. England really trips my trigger when I think of a place I'd like to visit outside the U.S., but I'm no longer wild about flying.
My wonderful "ranch" style home is partially a gift from my father, I bought it with my inheritance money. I like to put my personal touches (and collections) all around. I have a sweet and wonderful orange cat, Babydoo, he's six years old and "my baby" and just last February of 2005 I lost my loving, but neurotic, pure white, part Persian cat, Cadillac Coupe DeVille, he was 15 years old. So take a look around my family website, I hope you like what you see, you can leave suggestions or brickbats in the guestbook or email me if you care to do so. Thanks for stopping by!
Here's the latest! On Sept. 13, 2006 I had a gastric by-pass (weight loss surgery)--as of October 27, 2007 I've lost 99 pounds!!! For more info and photos, click here.
Another update from June 2008: Had my tummy tuck last month and I'm recuperating nicely so far. Lost some more weight so I'll have to update my little chart. |
