Petition information

228 people have signed the petition in support of the application to list Lorane Highway on the National Register of Historic Places. This includes 135 owners of properties along the road, and as we have opportunity to contact the remaining residents, we hope they will join us as well. Lots of stories and a number of photographs also have come our way along with the petitions.

In addition, 93 others who do not live here, but who feel the preservation of the road is important, have signed the petition. Along with Oregonians from Coquille, Dorena, Eugene, Monroe, Noti, Scotts Mills, Silverton, and Springfield, there are supporters from California, Iowa, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. And, we should add, one of the first who expressed his support was our County Commissioner, Peter Sorenson, who offered to write a letter in support of the National Historic Register application.

As we talked with residents and others who know the road, we found overwhelming interest in the preservation of the unique qualities of Lorane Highway, bumpy and windy as the old road is. If you would like to join us, please email your name and address so we may send you a petition form to complete (the form requires your name, address, and signature) and return. You do not need to be a registered voter to sign this petition.

Thanks so much to all of you.
