Our Hachem Smith Line

James and Olga PeakmanJames and Olga Peakman were married at the LDS Hall, Nuhaka, in 1938. Wedding Report  On September 15th 1920, at Gisborne, a beautiful baby girl was born to Matiu Porou Smith and May Ata Thorpe.
She was given to (whangai) her Aunt Bessie to be raised at Nuhaka. Our Mum attended what is known now as Nuhaka School. A very apt and intelligent lass, she was sent off to Queen Victoria College in Auckland to continue her education.

Tutored in the arts of needle point, etiquette, and a good measure of academics, she proved once again to be an extremely capable student. "Mum our scrabble games were always highly charged. I miss that'.

Our parents moved to Dad's home at Whakaki, where they delivered to the world, 15 bright and intelligent children. (not all at once of course.) Three of whom were adopted, to our Dad's brother Whenu Peakman, his sister Miriata Panapa, and Mum's cousin Marjorie Thompson. These couples at the time were unable to have children of their own.

I am number12 in this line.

There are many descendants from this couple.

Olga Okeroa Peakman

"Your hands once busy through the day,
You didn't have much time to play,
The little games I asked you to,
You didn't have much time to do.
Sometime later as I grew,
The things I didn't think you knew
Remember the night you heard me weep,
And took me to your bed to sleep.
Life is short, the years rush past,
A little child grows up so fast.
No longer are you at my side,
My precious secrets to confide.
The picture books are put away,
There are no longer games to play.
I am sad that you're not here, that all belongs to yester-year.
Your hands once busy, now lie still, the days are long and hard to fill.
I wish we could go back and do, the little things I asked you to.
But that’s ok, I love you still, I always did and I always will".

Genda - Global Genealogy Hookups

Genda is a genealogy database that covers surnames in this Hachem Smith website and surnames from all my genealogy projects. Genda can be found Here. Simply follow the links to the pages that are of interest to you.

As the site is a free one and allowed me the space to publish a database of 978 names, some pages are a little slow to load because of their advertising.

As well navigation can be tedious for the same reason. Please be patient. Click here to go to Hachem Smith in the Genda Genealogy database.
