| I. TRANSPORTATION
Lopez is accessible by land transportation twenty-four (24) hours a day thru the Maharlika Highway which traverses fifteen (15) of the town's urban and rural barangays and thru the Philippine National Railways. The PNR has two (2) stations in the town; one (1) in the Brgy. Gomez and one (1) in Brgy. Hondagua. The town is also considered as the gateway to the Bondoc Peninsula thru the Lopez-Buenavista and the Lopez-Catanauan Secondary National Roads. These access roads opened several windows of opportunities not just for Lopezeos but more importantly, for the residents of the Bondoc Peninsula. Significant increase in the amount of agricultural products as well as the influx of students to the town became noticeable right after the opening of the said access roads. Hundreds of jeepneys and vans run regularly in different routes while more than a thousand motorized tricycles ply within the town proper and adjacent barangays. Due to increasing traffic problem within the town proper and to level the playing field, these tricycles were given with their own routes as well as an assigned day wherein they should be off-the-road. A diversion road, which will bypass the town proper, has also been planned to divert the traffic away from the town proper. With the completion of this road project, buses, trucks and other large vehicles would no longer pass thru the town proper which will greatly reduce the traffic problem in the area. For those living near rivers as well those near Lamon, Lopez and Calauag Bays, transportation is served by privately-owned motorized boats. II. COMMUNICATION The town is served by five (5) landline and mobile phone companies: Globe, Smart, Sun Cellular, Digitel and Santelcor; two (2) telegraph stations; two (2) postal offices: one (1) located at the municipal hall building and the other at Brgy. Hondagua; two (2) FM radio stations: DWSU Cool FM and JS Hot FM, an MBC-affiliated station; two (2) cable television (CATV) companies with twenty-seven (27) local and international TV channels; three (3) printing companies. These are supplemented by VHF/UHF radio communication facilities located at the municipal building together with the radio services provided by Kabalikat Civicom and Lamon Bay REACT members who provide aides during emergency situations. Several newspapers, magazines and other reading materials also reach the town regularly. III. WATER The water needs of the households and business establishments in the town is provided by Lopez Water District. The potable and safe drinking water comes from the water spring at Brgy. Pisipis where the 418-hectare Lopez Watershed Forest Reserve is located. However, over the years, water supply in the town became scarce. This led to water rationing especially in the poblacion area. Due to this, several water refilling stations sprouted in the town to supplement the water needs of the community. IV. ELECTRICITY/POWER Electric and power needs of the town is provided Quezon I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Quezelco I). Several years ago, only handful of barangays, particularly those in the town proper and those traversed by the national highway, are energized. However, with recent completion of several road networks, even far-flung barangays of the town became energized. |
