Based on year 2000 Census, the population of the town is 78,694, an increase of 4.46% from 75,334 (1995 Census) and household numbering to 15,570. This is translated to an average household size of 5 members. Population-wise, Lopez is ranked as the 4th largest among the province's 40 municipalities and 1 city; behind Lucena City, Sariaya and Candelaria. With a land area of 395.10 square kilometers, the density is around 200 persons per square kilometer. More than a quarter (28.04%) of its population are living in the urban areas (poblacion) while the rest are scattered in the rural areas. Males outnumbered the females at a ratio of 106 : 100. With an annual population growth rate of 2.66%, the town was projected to have a population of 89,733 in 2005.
