The Horror Report: Updated Daily...

Latest update...May 2, 2001

Another Halloween....So far it looks like they are trying to churn the script out, and produce a haphazard film with continuity errors, a bad plot, a slow, or no storyline, and a possible death scene with Laurie Strode. So this Halloween 'expert' asks, why not? After all, they started destroying the series slowly after Halloween 4...(see reviews..)

--My new project is the Horror Report, a daily updated website on horror movies, television, upcoming movies, and real news pertaining to the industry...and just plain weird and horrific news, as well..

So, read the reviews, send me a nasty email about my opinions, and I will post them on here..I am always looking for a good debate...but most importantly, check the Horror Report for the latest news...That is all...

There have been 7 movies, countless spinoffs, constant products, and with that, more and more complaints by groups who say that the world needs less violence and gore in the movies. In my humble opinion, the only gore we don't need is the one who ran for president.

What is Halloween? In itself, it is just a movie that was made in 1978; John Carpenter oringally wanted to title the fim "The Babysitter Killer", but dreamed a more fanciful name. A simple name, one that implies the laughter of dressed up children on a night when we are expected to leave our lights on so kids can get candy, and if we're lucky do something in return.

That is where the horror comes in; a simple masterpiece, one that was even edited so badly the mistakes are countless. But the horror is still there. Simply a man in a mask, guided by a force that cannot be stopped in the world: evil. And the battle is with another force that cannot be stopped:good. A model for the times we live in, good versus evil, right versus wrong, dark and light, and in the end (Halloween 2) the good survives and the night loses. That is the only mistake of the film, it should have ended with two. There may have been calls by many people to continue it, but Carpenter made the right decision by not taking part in the rest of them.

Halloween has little gore in it. There may be a gratiutous sex scene, and there might be some blood and some needless verbage, but in the final analysis, it is an imaginative scare. To see Michael Myers, a man who seems to possess something more than sheer mortality, stare at the body of someone he had just killed without malice, but with pure hate, is frightening. The mentality of a madman cannot be dealt with by even his doctor, who shoots him six times and doesn't kill him. Even the photo above the side strikes a chord in the heart: the Shape himself watching Tommy in a school yard on Halloween day, only hours before his terror will start.

It's eerie how Michael Myers operates. He shows no remorse...he shows no emotion. Even in films like Nightmare on Elm Street or in Friday the 13th the main killers were more animated. Whether it was Freddy making jokes or Jason getting angry, you saw emotions. Michael Myers, on the other hand, shows a vast emptiness, only filled with hate for his own family, and evil itself.

Halloween is something larger than a mere horror film...a slasher film as it is said (after all, Halloween was the first in the slasher film genre). Halloween is equal to great past horror flicks, such as Night of the Living Dead, Carnival of Souls, and anything with Vincent Price. Halloween fans arise! Do not be ashamed anymore...there is nothing wrong with Halloween...John Carpenter created a classic.
