For the most part, the movie is magic. There may be some flubbed lines, there might even be some moments that should have been edited, but it's a classic horror film. The 1990s ruined horror films, for the most part, because it gave up the idea that a movie can scare, and then afterwards, you can laugh.
Halloween certainly has some laughs, also. Whether it's the film screw-ups, such as continuity errors, or something else, you can laugh at it, too.
But it's clear that Halloween made the night of Halloween even scarier...The darkness of Michael Myers is more frightening even over 20 years later.
