Our Moth Gallery

We were only interested in butterflies when we started. However, our quest for
butterflies has made us take far more notice of some of the moths which are around in our area. Here are four which we have seen.

Large Emerald
(Geometra Papilonaria)

This little beauty flew into our bathroom one morning.
We put it out of the window, and it flew off.
A lovely light green coloured moth.

Garden Carpet
(Xanthorhoe fluctuata)

This one was sitting on a window sill.
A strikingly monochrome coloured moth.

Peppered Moth
(Biston Betularia)

This one we saw on the wall of a public lavatory !
In appearencce it seemed quite similar to the garden carpet moth.

Cinnabar Moth
(Tyria Jacobaeae)

This little beauty is supposed to be nocturnal.
We saw a few on a spring visit to Kenfig Pool in April.
Its red stripes are a vivid crimson.
