Our Wish List

As you can see we have only been looking for butterflies for a short time. There are many
types in the UK which we have not seen . Here are some of the ones we would most
like to see - although it is unlikely as some of them are rare, or occasional visitors
to the UK.

Comma
(Polygonia c-album)
The comma is actually quite widespread in the UK. We have never seen one yet.
It gets its name from the white, comma-shaped mark on its underwing.

Purple Emperor
(Apatura Iris)
The purple emperor is not native to the UK, but is an occasional visitor.
It takes its name from the purple sheen on its wings,
when seen in a certain light.

Camberwell Beauty
(Nymphalis Antiopa)
The Camberwell Beauty takes its name from Camberwell,in South London.
However, it is no longer native to the UK, but does occasionally migrate
to the UK.

Swallowtail
(Papilio Machaon)
This is possibly the rarest butterfly in Britain. In the UK it is only found
in the Norfolk Broads although it is more common in areas of mainland Europe.
