Our Favourites

Red Admiral
(Vanessa Atalanta)

We spent a whole summer
looking for this one.
They were common enough
in London when I grew up
in the 70s, but it took us
a whole year to find one
in South Wales !

Small Tortoisehell
(Aglais Urticae)

This is a little beauty
Its fairly common, and we
tend to see them early in
the Spring, and then
late in the Summer.

Painted Lady
(Cynthia Cardui)

This is a late arrival
We saw painted ladies
right at the end of the Summer
through September into October.

Peacock Butterfly
(Inachis Io)

This is the first spring
butterfly we saw in 2001, and its
the one which started it all.
This is one of the most beautiful.
