UTAH
Beautiful Wide Open Spaces
The Sixth Week
I arrived at the summit of Glen Canyon just as the sun was dipping into the horizon.
I had gone through two time zones that day and the learning experience: Mountain Time is not Pacific Time.
When I had travelled through Arizona, I had achieved Pacific Time. When I reached Glen Canyon, I was back to Mountain (Central) Time. I had timed my day trip one hour short.
Zion National Park
This is Zion, near Hurricane, Utah.
The locals told me that Hurricane, Utah (Rte 59 and 9) had been a retreat for the wealthy before the advent of the automobile.
In the early Twentieth Century Californians came here for the dry, cool weather, they say.
I entered Hurricane from Arizona, past Mojave by way of Rte 59. I caught a view of Glen Canyon just at sunset. There were several cars parked at the summit that evening. Much to my surprise - another visitor was from Virginia! I was not the only one. It's a difficult drive to Hurricane from the Southeast; and the maps do not convey the distance well in "canyon lands."
