Sirima Veen asks two Thai players if it’s a good idea to run Amazing Thailand over two years. This year’s Amazing Thailand has the theme, Enchantment for the Next Thousand Years.
"Sure. Thailand will be successful again with its 2000 campaign as long as it integrates the word ‘Amazing’ in it. This word has given Thailand a positive image from the start. The same recipe will certainly be effective in the future. "Thailand should try to attract more visitors from the US and Canada which, at the moment, represent high potential. Distance is no longer a problem if visitors from North America fly on the new polar route. "The Tourism Authority of Thailand does produce good promotional brochures. However, many of them have not reached the end consumers sufficiently. I sometimes see brochures distributed only in Germany." – Luzi Matzig, managing director, Asian Trails
"For the campaign to continue to be successful, TAT must launch the activities for the 2000 campaign earlier and should work with the private sector more to develop greater products and marketing schemes. "For this year, it needs to be different by attracting niche-oriented markets, especially from Europe. Basically, the same Amazing Thailand message can be used, however, that message needs to be more specific."
