HOT TOUR

NEW TRAILS - BHUTAN

Asian Trails has launched packages to Bhutan – the ninth destination it is featuring.

The first tour group is set to kick off on June 1. Asian Trails will be working in cooperation with Bhutan-based Druk-Yul Tours & Trek.

Group managing director Luzi Matzig said Bhutan attracted just 7,000 inbound tourists last year. This is due to a strict law designed to protect the country from becoming a mass tourism destination. So far, only high-end visitors have been allowed to enter. All tourists travelling to Bhutan must utilise the tour package at a minimum cost of US$200 per person daily. Matzig said most visitors would take package tours of five to 15 days, making each tourist’s budget between US$1,000 and US$3,000 per trip. "For FIT group, our charge is a little bit higher. The cost will be US$240 per person daily for a single traveller, and US$230 per person daily for a group of two," Matzig said.

Amid all the strict regulations, Matzig is confident that the company would attract at least 500 visitors for the first year. Main markets are American, German, Swiss, Italian and French. Contact: Nongluck, Tel: 662 658 6080-9, Fax: 662 658 6099, e-mail: [email protected]
