Portfolio: Uni Work

All of this work was completed during my MSc Multimedia Applications. Select an image to launch the piece of work described.

Final Project

MSc final projectThe title of my final project was 'How successful is multimedia at teaching practical skills to adult learners?' This was a research project that involved the development of an application. My application was to teach camping skills to adult leaders of GirlGuiding UK. It was designed to be delivered on a CD so might not run well via the web.

PPortfolio - Module: Multimedia Design

Portfolio - Multimedia DesignThis was the 2nd ICA for this module (the first was a research article). The brief was to create a portfolio showing the skills acquired throughout the module and show how the personal goals set at the beginning of the module were achieved.

My personal goals were: Learn how to use Actionscript, Learn how to use videos in Flash, Learn how to use sound in Flash, Learn how to use Photoshop to create web banners and buttons and learn how to create websites in Flash.

Out There Travel Guide to Australia - Module: Multimedia Design

Out There Travel Guide to AustraliaThis was the final ICA for the module and was a group project in which we had 5 days to design, develop and present a student gap year travel guide to a country of our choice. My role within the group was multimedia programmer and screen designer. So basically I came up the design for all screens and then spent a week writing action script :-) and putting together all the bits that other members of the group found. It was a hard week, not much keeps me up until 5am (not now I'm old) but I think the result was pretty good given the timescale and it was great fun. Could I just apologise to those people who were in the Dickens Inn that week and had to put up with our endless singing of Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. Oh and Ian's Dame Edna Everage impressions. :-D

This guide was written in Flash and was intended to be delivered on a CD-ROM. Click the image below to launch the application

Tees TV Music Website - Module: Web Authoring and the Internet.

Tees TVThis was a group project with the brief of designing and developing a website for a new digital TV music channel. Each member of the team created a sub-site for this based on one type of music, my area was pop. As it was a group project the design of the sub-site had to conform to the design specification created by the team. This site was created using HTML and CSS with a small amount of JavaScript. The link with further information is coming soon.

CAFE Website - Module: Multimedia Project Management

CAFE WebsiteThe website created within this module was only a small aspect of the work, as expected from the module title the vast majority of work was to do with project management. This was a group project in which we were given a specification for a new cultural website. The aim of our site was to make it as accessible as possible. It was written in DHTML and CSS. The link with further information is coming soon.

Helly Hanson Advert - Module: Visual and Sound Effects

Random person skiing The brief for this ICA was to create a video between 30 and 60 seconds long in a contemporary style which could be an advert or movie trailer etc. It had to contain at least two audio tracks including one poem reading. Having just come back from skiing and being obsessed by the great white stuff when this ICA was given out I decided to create an advert for Helly Hanson. The poem used was Risks by Janet Rand. Not all of the poem was used due to it's length so I used artistic licence to select the most appropriate parts. I apologise for the quality of sound, the laptop I used to create this sound recording wasn't happy at being asked to do such things.

This video was created using Adobe Premiere and Sony Sound Forge with the still images being edited in Adobe Photoshop. The images and video clips used were for both my personal collection and ones download from the web, although all were edited and modified in some way for use within this video.

Fantasy Football Website - Module: Designing for Web Exploitation

Fantasy football siteThe brief was to create a fantasy football website using c# and SQL server 2000. This ICA had a very tight specification of what had to work, including the ability to register and login, the ability to create a team without going over a set money limit, league tables to show current league positions and the creation of a web service to show the current league positions. All data such as player names and costs and weekly player points was called from web services. As this is a C# and SQL site and I haven't got a suitable web space for hosting it you will have to put up with a series of screen shots. Incidentally I got 98% for this ICA so trust me it is good!
