About Instructor Karen | ||||||||||||||
| I have been studying TaeKwonDo for about 5 1/2 years under Master Brian Thompson at the North American Self-Defense Academy in Chicago, IL. Currenly, I am a second degree black belt, and will test for my third degree next summer. As an instructor, I notice that sometimes students are timid about execuing moves confidently, in fear of making a mistake. What I say is this: even if you make a mistake and make it confidently, that move becomes stronger--if you are on the street in a confrontation, you cannot stop and think, "Oh gee, I should do green belt one-step #4, but what kick is it after the block?" Whatever you throw needs to be strong, and even if it's the "wrong" kick, it still could be effective if done with confidence. (Hopefully, though, your instructor will inform you of the mistake so you can try again!) As a student, I have realized that my martial arts training has greatly improved my discipline and focus in other areas of my life as well. Also, with the benefits of MA and a proper diet accompanied by supplimental strength training, both my mental and physical well-being have kept me constantly in good health and in good physical condition. Taking a little extra time to make sure you are living healthy will go a long way. |
