| I have given each of these books a rating, so I hope it helps. Also, they may be categorized as horror, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are scary. | |
| ***** | Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause |
| I read this book years ago, and the fact that I remember it must be a good thing. It's a romance but since it has to do with vampires I added it to horror anyway. Besides, Simon's, a good vampire, it's his older brother that's a little monster. There's also Zoe, a young girl going through depression. Her mother is dying and she does not know how to handle it. Then she meets Simon, and learns of his dark past. Her desire to help him grows into something much more. Will this relationship open to the light, or be dragged into the darkness? | |
| **** | Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan |
| Somewhat juvenile, I picked it up because it had to do with vampires. When I read it, I was somewhat disappointed, but I continue to read it just because I'm curious to see how it ends. This is a series and I will not go into each individual book. The hero of this story is named Darren Shan, and he used to be a normal kid, until a trip to the circus turned sour. In exchange for his friend's life, he becomes the assistant, a half vampire, of a certain Mr. Crepsly, a well known vampire. It is normally against the laws to make an assistant so young, and it is met with opposition. But this race of vampires has a bigger problem, their sworn enemy claims their king is coming, and with the coming of their king means the end of them. | |
| **** | Salem's Lot by Steven King |
| THIS IS NOT A SCARY BOOK! I was told I would be terrified, that I would never be able to read it at night. To those people, I say BAH! It was not scary. They have made movies on it, and those were not scary. The basic story line of it is vampires take over a town, and even the priest falls to their wily ways. The hero is a writer and old tenant of the town, and takes it upon himself to rescue the people. However it does not work out exactly as he wanted. This is still a good book to read, and entertaining. It just isn't scary. I cannot stress that enough. | |
| ***** | Taltos by Anne Rice |
| I love this book! Despite being a little sexual, because that is the way of the Taltos, it is still really good. The story focuses around Ashlar, the last of his kind. By the way, a Taltos is a freakishly tall person who grows to full height in less than an hour, and lives a VERY long life. He has come to own an empire, and treats people with a unnerving gentleness. With his many years of life, he has learned many things. His past is a dark one though. Then you have the Mayfair witches, a family of witches capable of having a Taltos. Back on Ashlar, he has an obsession with dolls, for they are forever young, like he is. It is a very interesting tale, and I could go on about for a long time, but I'm not going to because you should read it. | |
| **** | Dangerous Girls by R.L. Stine |
| I never thought I would find a teen book written by R.L. Stine, by here it is. Not only that, by it's the first of two. The story is about two sisters, twins, who's mother recently committed suicide, and who have just come home from camp, to discover that they have changed, and not for the good. They are hit by unnerving cravings for blood and are hurt by the sun. Then you got the stalker, who is after the more timid sister. Will the sisters be able to fight this foe, or be forever wrapped in the night? | |
| **** | Taste of the Night by R.L. Stine |
| Welcome back to the story of the twins. Livvy is now a complete vampire, but Destiny cannot handle that. She is determined to fix her shattered family. But is Livvy willing to cooperate? Or does she want Destiny all to herself, and willing to do anything to accomplish that? This is a compelling end to a good tale by the infamous Mr. Stine. | |
| ** | Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause |
| This is the story about a teenage werewolf falling for an ordinary man. But this ordinary man loves things like werewolves. Is she willing to show him her secret? Will he accept? And not only this, but she must also go against her family and her heritage. Will this confused little cub overcome the obstacles to love, or will it be shattered like her past. | |
| ***** | The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice |
| I like this better than Interview with the Vampire, even though I like Louis better, I think. Anyway, this is Lestat's story. He wakes up from some deep sleep and becomes a famous rockstar. His appearance does not go unnoticed by the underworld either. To make matters worse, he reveals the many secrets of the vampires, not meant to be heard by both vampires and humans alike. What will these bold statements bring about? | |
| **** | Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice |
| If you have not heard of this book, I weep for you. It's a movie people! Anyway, this is the story of Louis, a tormented soul who has seen the world progress for two hundred years. He recounts his terrible tale to a young reporter, desperate to make his life known. You learn of his painful transformation, the hard first years, first love, lost love, and ultimatly acceptance. It is a good book, better than the movie anyway. | |
