World History of Liposuction
The
most important thing about liposuction since the Fischers is the development of
local anaesthesia by Jeffrey Klein, an American
dermatologist who demonstrated that by reducing the lidocain and
epinephrine (adrenaline) by 10-20 fold, the dilute solution was safe and
effective. The development of this
tumescent anaesthesia allowed liposuction to be performed over large body area
using local anaesthesia alone without lidocaine toxicity. Thus a new age was
born in which liposuction could be performed
on an ambulatory basis on patients who still awake during the procedure.
A number of dermatologic surgeon
helped to pioneer advances in this tumescent liposuction and helped to educate
other physicians in this technique all over the world. Coleman
