Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) post liposuction .

The main cause of death post liposuction mostly are anesthetic death (general anesthesia or overdose in local anesthesia). Very seldom there were some cases with pulmonary thrombo-emboli, cause by deep-vein-thrombosis (DVT)..

DVT should be treated promptly in well-equipt hospital in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), because of DVT's fatality rate is high.

DVT is a blood clot formation in leg vein, became free , follow the blood stream, and block the lung or heart vessels. DVT could be happened from any surgical procedures, not only after  liposuction . DVT could also happened without any correlation with surgery, such as delivery after pregnancy, or condition where long immobility of the body such a long flight . The predisposing factors are: woman, older than 40 years, smoking, in hormone (estrogen) replacement therapy, obese, with family history of DVT.

One famous case of fatal DVT without any correlation with liposuction or surgery was the Miss Christofferson case, a 20 years healthy female on a long flight from Melbourne to London (20 hours flight). Minutes after leaving the aircraft, she died because of DVT. The newspaper all over the world said this is an "economy class syndrome", which happened more than 100 cases per year.

The conclusion is  DVT could be happened in any situation, and when happened in post liposuction patient, not merely cause by the doctor's fault, but mostly because of the patient condition itself.
