When I first came to chat in The City of Lights two and one half years ago, I met a young JW teenager, I believe the name he used back then was Cedric. I didn't get to chat with him much since I usually chatted in the mornings and he was busy finishing highschool. Over the years I met him on several occasions. He changed his names at different times.
He and some of the other JW teens that went there had memorable times taking on the h2o heavies. I remember them slipping off to private rooms when being confronted by Seeker, and Dred Scott, The Liberal MS, Liberal Cephas, etc. They defended their religion and took the heat. I recall in the summer of 1997, a young Abijah posting on this board. His post was about the cleansing work that Jesus would do on earth, it was a warning. He spoke with me in the chatroom, always trying to encourage me, worried about my spirituality.
Last year I met Gray Herald, he had a web page which mainly defended Jehovah's sovereignity. He used various names, but I knew it was Covert. He usually let me in on it after a while. I've seen his picture (and Rick, he still has teenage acne.....not 59 years old). Although I admit that I was surprised by his age, the very fact that he ahd been consistent about it over a two year period convinced me he was indeed a teenager.
So what happened? A 17 year old JW finds a JW chatroom. Over time he searches the site, is disturbed by what he sees and attempts to defend it. At the same time he sees things going on in his congregation that challenge his belief system. He researches and investigates and questions. He eventually leaves.
Do you wonder why he is angry? He stumbles across a website promoting itself as a JW site. He learns the "truth about the truth" and he's angry. When he tries to voice his anger and frustration, he gets called an apostate by this site's webmaster, the site that got him thinking to begin with. Yes, he's mad, he felt betrayal from the WTS and now he's feeling it from H2O.
He's not the first JW to come here and have this happen. In fact last year when H2O designed the new city of lights to exit right onto the Open Forum, I asked that they change the exit. It seems H2O wants to expose the wrongs of the WTS, but then they turn on the ones that cannot allow themselves to remain in the religion after they see these wrongs. Of course Covert reacted the way he did to Rick. What did you expect?
