Well where do I begin? My origin has changed a few times. So I think I'd start from the beginning, way back in 1940!
The first time I appeared in the Batman universe, you wouldnt have recognised me! In fact I wasnt even Catwoman then really! I went under the name of The Cat and wore a wonderful green dress. Thats right my little kitties! I didnt yet have a costume. Also this issue marked the debut of that freakish clown the Joker. Where as he was all for killing Im against all that. Maybe that sets me quite apart from Batmans other certain nemesis. Also this issue set up my love-hate relationship with the dark knight. After recovering my stolen loot he let me go. Maybe he thought I'd just disappear? Hardly! But he did remark, Nice legs.
Batman #1
By Batman #62, The Secret Life of Catwoman, Id secured my way into the DC universe. I picked up the identity of Selina Kylie and a rather farfetched first origin. But at least it proved my feelings for the Dark Knight.
After carrying out another robbery, I found myself being pursued by the Batman. Secretly I enjoyed being pursued, I always have. Its so very cat-and-mouse and I think Batman, enjoys it to, but doesnt care to admit it.
But Batman only almost has a wall fall down on him, because I lead him on a run past a demolishing building. I had to save him, but I got smacked on the head by a brick, and get rendered unconscious. Bats was really concerned about my injury, probably felt guilty to, and he whisked me off to that big Batcave of his. Well, when I was there, I begin to speak, while still unconscious, and said that the passengers should now buckle their seatbelts. Well after I finally woke up, there was more confusion. I looked only to see that the calendar that states that its 1950! But it wont be 1950 for years! I explained to Batman, after he confused me by calling me Catwoman, that Im an air stewardess for a company called Speed Airways.
The last thing I was able to remember was being hit on my head as I attempted to escape the plane that had just crashed. Batman, being his usual resourceful self stated that I had been suffering with amnesia. Batman then explained to me about my life as Catwoman, much to my horror!
I renounced my life of crime and that kind Commissioner Gordon allowed me a pardon from my crimes on an agreement! I had to help stop my current partner (Why did I need a partner DC?) Mister X. Oh please! At first I disagreed but after some persuasion I agreed, becoming the undercover agent. When I had helped Batman apprehend Mister X, I hung up my cat-o-nines and opened a pet shop.
Batman #62
Well the story for that particular origin doesnt end their kitties. In Detective #203 a story appeared called Crimes of the Catwoman! I appear as a law-abiding citizen, reading the local RAG! This newspaper decided to print a story, regarding my arrest. Well the writer only gives the implication that Batman managed to arrest me because Im a stupid simple woman! As if, I eluded him since 1940, so Im no simpleton. The local crooks, small timers, decided to get right under my fur by taunting me! The believed I'd been degraded to a lower status. Well they wouldnt have laughed at Catwoman would they? Exactly! So I put the claws back on. And gave myself a purrrfect rebirth! I snuck onto Gotham Police Headquarters and stole that big bright Bat Signal. I did alter it so that night a giant cat insignia shone in they sky. Catwoman lives again! Meow!
