| John Dushane is buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette, Michigan. |
| Everything we know about John Dushane comes from official records in Marquette County and old newspaper articles. None of us that are alive today knew him. Our father's didn't even know him. John Dushane died at the age of 30. He was survived by his wife, Mary Kolka Dushane and four sons, Albert, Louis, John and Leo. Albert was the oldest son, he was 7 years old when his father's death occured. Leo was the youngest, 13 months old. Albert more than likely had memories of his father. John's name first appeared in the Marquette City Directory in 1891. His residence remained the same as Ellen Dushane, his mother, until his marriage in 1895. On November 5, 1895 he married Mary Kolka. His name was recorded in the Marquette County Marriage Records as John Duchane, son of Thomas Dushane. John and Mary Dushane are recorded in the 1900 Census. They resided at 682 Fisher St. in Marquette, Michigan. Living at that residence on 1 June 1900 were John, Mary, Albert and Louis. Other information included John's birthplace as being Canada Fr. and his immigration date of 1882. Mary's birthplace was Germany, and the date of immigration 1885. An interesting observation was that John was listed as the only member of the household that could speak English. On December 3,1903, John's name appeared in the Daily Mining Journal in an article detailing his accidental death. His name was recorded in the Marquette County Death Records as John Dushane, son of Thomas Dushane. No official records give us the name of his Mother. However we have been able to determine that his Mother was Ellen Poliquin Dushane. Please be sure to visit our page about Ellen and you will see how we came to that conclusion. At this time we have no photograph of John Dushane. We continue to research him. |
