| Throughout our 20 years of research, Thomas Dushane has always been a mystery to us. We know very little about him and what we do know we've taken from official records and the Canada Census of 1881. We have been unable to determine whether Thomas ever lived in the United States. We have information that shows the family immigrated to the United States in 1882, however we believe that only his wife Ellen and their children lived here. Thomas' name appears in the Marquette County Marriage records in 1888 as the father of Phillip Duchane and in 1895 as the father of John Dushane. It also appears in the Marquette County Death records in 1903 as the father of John Dushane. In the Marquette City Directories, Ellen Dushane, wife of Thomas, was listed as the "widow of Thomas". In July of 2002, we located our Dushane's in the 1881 Canada Census. We learned a great deal in the census report which has expanded our research greatly.
