Service Dog Breed Standards

It is strongly recommended that all breeders either familiarize themselves with the standards listed here or find a major real life organization's standards before they begin breeding.

Remember, these standards describe the ideal dog; no dog is perfect!

These pages are currently being modified so they don't infringe upon the copyrights of the AKC and other organizations. Please be patient. Pages that say "CDA Breed Standard" are using a new standard written by me (Tiju) for the SDC/CDA. If you feel important details have been left out of any CDA standard, please contact me.

The CDA policy on unacceptable colors:

Dogs of colors that are not acceptable for their breed in the CDA, but DO occur in real life, may be registered with their breed, but not shown in conformation shows, including the SDC show (with the acception of breed shows, if the owner of the breed club chooses to accept additional colors). These dogs are free to participate in other events, such as obedience, tracking, etc., but just not conformation shows.

If the CDA standard has left out a color that is accepted in a major real life organization (such as the AKC, FCI, UKC, etc.), please email me. Include a link to the standard you found, and the color will most likely be accepted.
