General Appearance

The ideal Rottweiler is a compact, medium-large dog, with a black coat and well defined rust-colored markings. The eyes are dark and almond-shaped. The ears are triangular. The nose is fairly broad and always black. The neck is powerful and slightly long. The tail, although typically docked, is equally acceptable docked or full length. The forelegs are strong and straight. The rear thighs are extensively muscled. The coat is straight and of medium length.


Color/Marking

Black with rust to mahogany markings. The markings are clearly defined. The markings should be located as follows: a spot above each eye, cheeks, as a strip around each side of muzzle, on throat, triangular mark on both sides of prosternum, forelegs from carpus downward, inside of rear legs, under tail. Markings should not exceed ten percent of body color.


Disqualifications

Any base color other than black.
Absence of all markings.
