le courtisane de mode

Star Wars CanCan

This costume was inspired by a discussion on the Moulin Rouge message board about cross-media cancan ideas. The outer costume will be completely Star Wars canon while underneath I'll have a ruffled petticoat with rows of lightsaber colors and some nifty leather bloomers. I'll wear a corset to get the correct shape as well as to help hold up some of the weight of the two skirts. See the sketches I made of the costume and ruffle placement [here].

The Materials (So Far)
1 - brown twill, 6 yds (circle skirt); 2 - white crinkled cotton (undertunic); 3 - white linen blend (overtunic); 4 - white linen blend #2; 5 - cream satin (overtunic sleeve lining); 6 - red, mint, lt. blue, and lilac satin (ruffles); 7 - brown vinyl (belt); 8 - silver buckle for belt

The Corset: Muslin
To help support the weight of the ruffled underskirt, I decided to make a white Victorian corset. Here are the muslin pictures (out of duck cloth, with temporary lacing strips). In the last picture, I was trying to decide where the top edge should be - that's why it looks lopsided. LOL.
