Picnic Gown Blouse

My mom and I were shopping one day at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and with absolutely no encouragement from me *evil grin* she bought a sheer floral shower curtain for our upstairs bathroom that coincidentially matches the fabric used for Padme's Picnic Gown shawl. I don't have any real desire to make the entire costume, but I thought I'd use the fabric (now that the curtain has served its original purpose) to make a top inspired by Padme's Picnic Gown.

Status of Costume: complete

Started: Summer 2006
Finished: April 2007

Materials Used:
Fabric - flowered shower curtain from Bed, Bath, and Beyond
Ribbons - various colored satin ribbons from Joann's
Dragonfly "Brooch" - button, also from Joann's
Thread - Sulky varigated thread, "Avocado", from Joann's

Purchased Items:
Camisole - appropriated from Mom and dyed to match fabric

Patterns Used:
Blouse - Simplicity 9966, heavily modified

What I like:
I think that the blouse is immediately recongizable (if you know what Padme's Picnic Gown is, that is), so I think I was effective in that regard. I also love the little dragonfly "brooch" and the scalloped edge finish.

What I would change:
The arms on the blouse ended up a little tight, I think from the way I put in the elastic. But, I'm not redo-ing that! The fabric glue I used to attach the headband backing bled through the front and darkened the ribbon. I was able to almost fix it, but it stiffened the headband up horribly and is still somewhat noticable close up. No matter though - I cut my hair really short and it looks funny when I wear it anyway. Oh well!
