"Baby" Jedi

My little brother, now 13, has decided he wants to be a Jedi Padawan for Halloween 2005. Last year, he was Gandalf the White - see the finished costume [here]. Again, since this is a Halloween costume, it won't be completely accurate due to time and budget constraints. Also, I apologize for the white spots covering my brother's face - I don't feel completely okay about putting unedited pictures up of him since he is still a minor. Hope you understand. :)

Status of Costume: complete

Started: Summer 2005
Finished: Oct. 11, 2005

Materials Used:
Robe - brown heavy woven (polyester I think) from clearance at Joann's
Outer Tunic - white linen, also from Joann's
Inner Tunic - crinkled cotton, also from Joann's
Obi - linen and crinkled cotton from Joann's
Tabbards - linen from Joann's
Pants - Gandalf the White pants: regular muslin and elastic from Joann's
Belt - brown vinyl, small silver buckle, black elastic, and black velcro from Joann's; four small silver snaps from stash
Accessories - lightsaber from Walmart, $20

Patterns Used:
Robe - self drafted with help from Padawan's Guide
Outer & Inner Tunic - self drafted, again with help from Padawan's Guide
Obi & Tabbards - self drafted, simple rectangles
Pants - Gandalf the White pants: self-patterned from a pair of my brother's pajama pants
Belt - self drafted, again with help from Padawan's Guide

What I like:
I'm really quite pleased with how the entire costume came out and my brother absolutely *loved* it. I'm also really happy with how the hood on the robe came out - very full and drapey and cool.

What I would change:
Again, minor fitting issues with the inner and outer tunic - I made both a little too big, perhaps compensating too much for the fact that Gandalf the White turned out a little small. But, this costume just may last another Halloween or two. :) The pants we reused just barely fit him now. If this costume is going to be worn in the future, they'll probably need to be remade.
