Growing In Your Faith!

Some helpful links (coming soon!)

Communicate!

Get Involved!

Now that you are a Christian, you will need to do some things to keep growing in your faith. These are not requirement for you to get into heaven, but are needed in order to become a more mature Christian. Growing in your faith is one of the many goals of being a Christian!
?????????
How can we grow in our faith?

1. READ YOUR BIBLE EVERY DAY
This is important because God communicates through the Bible! Reading his word on a regular basis will help you grow closer to God, and will answer some of your questions about God. It is a good idea to memorize some key verses so that you can have them whenever you need them. On the page titled "Growing in your faith" there is a section for scripture memorizations. I have prepared, in special groupings by topic, verses for you to memorize. I suggest doing it by a weekly or monthly basis, and going back to review old memorizations. The key to memorization is repetition. Say them all every night before you go to bed. You'd be amazed at how much it will make a difference over time!

2. PRAY TO GOD
The bible actually says to "pray constantly." Well, obviously this isn't practical to always be on your knees in a constant prayer with God, but one way you can follow that commandment is to always keep the communication line open. Talk to him like you would talk to a friend that you were with on a regular basis. (You wouldn't "hang out" with a friend and spend the whole time together in silence, would you? Not if you were really close with that person!) Praying is the best way to grow closer to God. It may feel weird at first, but just remember, God is listening intently to what you have to say. Be honest - God already knows everything so you don't have to hide anymore! God just wants you to be YOU! Tell him everything you can think of - your worries, fears, joys, and yes, even doubts and angers. (if you are angry at him, tell him. If you are doubting something he says is true, tell him!) He wont get mad at you for being honest!

3. TELL OTHER CHRISTIANS ABOUT YOUR DECISION
Telling others about your decision confirms it also. One way to publicly announce your conversion is to be baptized! If it is too soon for such a public announcement, go and tell a trusted friend or a pastor at a local church. SOMEONE you trust needs to know and maybe even be an accountability partner!

4. JOIN A CHURCH SO YOU CAN FELLOWSHIP WITH THOSE OTHER CHRISTIANS
This is important because you NEED fellowship! God created us to be with other people, not to be alone! You are less likely to be able to face your day to day problems unless you have someone who will help you through it by giving you advise and praying for you. Don't try and do it all by yourself! Also, church is a great way to learn more. Don't like church because they ask for too much money and they are full of a bunch of hypocrites? Well, don't give more than YOU feel comfortable (God says 10% is fine!) and don't you worry about the other people - they will answer to God someday! Find people who are genuine and stick with them!

5. TALK TO YOUR PASTOR AT THAT CHURCH TO FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED IN SERVING GOD
Another cool way that you can get closer to God is by serving him! Did you know that God loves people more than anything? So what better way for you to please God than by helping the people he cares about! There are usually lots of ways you can serve, and it doesn't even have to be hard or boring! In fact, if it is boring to you, you are in the wrong ministry! Talk to your pastor and he will help you figure out which position is best suited for you. I have found my calling by being a puppet for little kids! Your calling may be to sing, to greet, to be a prayer warrior, to clean, to lead a study, or so many other things! It can be extremely fulfilling once you find what you were meant to do! (and by the way, Jesus said that whenever you help someone else out, its like you are really helping him! Remember the last time you helped an old lady at the store or held a door for someone carrying something heavy? Its the same thing as if you did those things for God!! How COOL is that?!?)

6. TELL A NON-CHRISTIAN ABOUT YOUR FAITH - THIS IS CALLED WITNESSING.
God loves people, remember? God wants those people to also be in this great big family! And God wants YOU to help him recruit new members! All you have to do is share your faith with a friend that doesn't know him. Another way you can help is by referring someone to this page (click here to learn about ways to do that), inviting a friend to church, or inviting them to a Christian concert or gathering.

7. ATTEND A BIBLE STUDY TO HELP YOU GROW IN YOUR FAITH
Attending a Bible study sounds like a lot, but it is really helpful. Even though you may study on your own, you may miss a lot of things that other people can help you see. If you just became a Christian, I recommend (if your church has it) a study called "The Alpha Course". Ask your pastor if there is one in your church (and when it starts) and if there isn't, ask if there is some sort of "Christianity 101" course in the church. That is the best one for you to start out in, then once you finish that, you can jump to a more challenging study! It is also a neat way to meet cool people!

Now that you know these things, you can jump on over to our "Growing in God" page for more tools to help you in your journey with God! There are also many other sites and groups that you can join that will help you. To explore more sites, I have prepared a list on the "Some helpful links" page!
