QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

  1. Why do we pray?

There are several answers to that question. First, prayer is communication with God. As Christians, one of the ways we grow deeper in our relationship with God is by talking to him. Prayer is also a way to ask for God's provision. God wants us to let him provide all of our needs, and even sometimes some of our wants! Prayer also forces us to trust God. Yes, God already knows everything we will say before we say it and he already knows what we want and need, but he still wants us to ask for it! God commands us to pray and Jesus prayed when he lived on earth, so we must strive to be more and more like Christ by obeying God and following in Christ's footsteps!

  1. Why doesn't God seem to answer my prayers?

There could be several reasons why he's does not seem to answer you. But first think about something-what if he is answering you but the answer is simply "no"? God will not grant a request if it is not in our best interest, just like your parents wont let you do something that might cause you harm! Another reason is that his timing is different than our own. He might answer your prayer, but you may not see the manifestations until much later. God knows what he is doing and everything will work out for his purpose! Another obvious reason your prayers may not get answered is if you have un-confessed sin in your life. Remember that sin separates us from God and even though we are saved, we still need to confess our daily sins and struggles to renew that relationship again! He may delay his answer to teach you patience and perseverance! God does not waste any circumstance when he could be teaching you something. It also teaches you to trust in him to take care of you!

A last reason you may not see an answer to your prayer is if it interferes with the free will of other people. For example, you may be praying for the salvation of a family member or friend. God won't force that person to be saved just because you prayed for it, and in fact, God wants that person saved more than you do! He will work in that persons life, send someone to witness at JUST the right time, and will soften that persons heart as much as possible, but if that person doesn't want to believe in God, then there is nothing he can do. God wants people to worship him because they want to, not because they are forced. Therefore, in this life, God will never force himself into somebody's heart - he will only come if invited!

  1. Why should I read my bible?

The answer is simple-to learn what God has to say! Did you know that God speaks through the Bible? When you are praying, you speak to God but when you want an answer from God, he speaks through the Bible. Some other reasons to read the bible are: the understand God better, to become aware of what is right and wrong and be able to make a choice between the two, to be comforted (often psalms will comfort you!), to find encouragement, to learn about what is going to happen in the future, to obtain faith, to figure out how to live your life, to find examples of Christian living by reading about new testament Christians! The list goes on and on. A reason to memorize verses is so that you can have them when you need them and because it comes in handy when you are witnessing to other people!

Questions to come:

  1. Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?
  2. What is my purpose in life?
  3. Who is the Holy Spirit? What does he do?
  4. How can I be sure of my faith?
  5. What separates Christianity from other world religions? What makes Christianity right?
  6. Why so many denominations? Which one is "right"?
  7. Does God forgive ALL sins? What about...(fill in possible horrendous sin that can't possibly be forgiven).

Submit your questions by emailing me at [email protected] and put in the info line "questions". If I choose to answer your question, I will put it under the list of "questions to come" and it will be answered in a few weeks. Do you need prayer? Guidance? Someone to talk to? Email me at [email protected] and I will reply soon! Submit your prayer requests by going to the communication page or email them to me. You can also indicate if you just want me to pray for it and not post it for everyone to see!

I'd like to put a chat room in here eventually so that you can have someone to talk to if you need it. However, it is pointless to put one in until I have enough viewers because there will never be anyone to talk to in the chat room! If you think that you would use the chat room often enough for me to add one, please let me know by emailing me, [email protected] in the subject line put "vote" and in the body say that you would or wouldn't ever use a chat room if it were offered!
