The Manager
"There' s only one Gary Megson"
With just under two months remaining of the 1999/2000 season Albion were floating in or around the relegation zone...Brian Little had just left after less then seven months in charge.  The fans were losing hope and many were resigned to watching second division football come August as the club announced that former Stockport manager, Gary Megson had come to run the team.

No sooner had he took the helm, key players were being signed to try and keep the team in the first division, now nicknamed the 'Famous Five': Neil Clement, Phil Gilchrist, Des Lyttle, Tony Butler and the return of prodigal son Bob Taylor.

Many fans believe it was the return of  'Super Bob' and the six goals he scored that kept us in the Division, his face when he scored his goal against Charlton, the very last game of the season said it all...we were safe...but it was also down to Megson.

Megson made the team is own, a number of players have gone during his time in charge most notably Richard Sneekes and Lee Hughes...Megson never wanted to sell Hughes but when Lee refused his new contract offer and Coventry made a five million bid Gary was left with no choice.

Not one of the signings Gary's made has been a failure; all of his now 'famous five' play regular first team football and Clement was player of the year for the 2000/2001 season.  His recent signings have been a revelation; Andy Johnson, Darren Moore, Igor Balis, Danny Dichio and Scott Dobie have all scored goals this season.

The defence has gone from a joke to the best in the division, the midfield is one of the strongest in the league and had Jason Roberts' season not been marred by breaking his foot three times no doubt we would have scored more goals then we have.

In the space of two and half seasons, Gary's taken the team from bottom to the top, finishing sixth in the 2000/2001 season to being automatically promotion pushers in 2001/2002.

And you know what...the fans love him!
