Fleming vs. Northside
2-06-06

In what has been their most exciting game this season, the Lady Colonels scored at the buzzer to defeat the Northside Vikings 46-45.  Down by 1 point with 13 seconds left, Fleming played "sweat D" for 5 seconds forcing Northside to turn the ball over.  After a time out to set up a final shot, Fleming inbounded the ball with 8 seconds remaining in the game. I don't know if it was the play Coach Bulls called for, but with four seconds left, center Kim Foster ended up with the ball at the top of the key.  She squared up with the basket; then, passed to senior forward Janee Jennings standing alone at the right elbow of the basket. Janee made the jumper and according to one of the JV players "History was made!"
Shayla Vance came off  the bench to lead the offense with 15 points and 6 rebounds.  Ashley Simmons had 12 points and 7 points worth of assists to go with her 4 steals.  Janee Jennings' game winning basket was two of her 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.  In a rare starter position, Jazmine Carter had 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist.  Kim Foster's 4 points, 6 rebounds and 1 blocked shot were almost overshadowed by her 1 assist for the game winning basket.  Brandi Smith led the team with 10 rebounds and added 3 steals, an assist and a block.

Fleming vs. Alleghany
2-10-06

Tonight was Senior Night, and the seniors showed why they deserved the respect given to them by the underclassmen as they made major contributions to the Lady Colonel victory over Alleghany by a score of 51-48.  Senior guard Marcia Sullivan announced that she wasn't going home crying over losing her last regular game of the season; then, scored 11 points, grabbed 2 rebounds and had 7 defensive stops to assure the victory.  Senior guard Ashley Simmons was 100% at the free throw line to score her 4 points, dished off 22 points worth of assists, snatched 7 rebounds and stole 3 passes.  Senior forward Janee Jennings out-rebounded every player on both teams by claiming 9 boards.  She also had a steal and 5 good defensive plays.  Senior forward Cierra Bonds returned to chip in 6 points, 4 rebounds and a steal. Senior guard Jazmine Carter had 4 rebounds, a steal and caused the opponents to turn the ball over 3 times.  Shayla Vance led the offense with 16 points, 6 steals and 4 rebounds.  Brandi Smith had 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Kim Foster had 2 points, 3 rebounds,  6 blocks and a steal.  Sidra Johnson added 2 points, 2 rebounds, 4 blocks and an assist. Chenique Bonds had 5 rebounds and 2 assists before being thrown out of the game for leaving the bench to defend a teammate who was kicked in the head by a Mountaineer.
