Fleming vs. Patrick Henry
1-09-06

The Lady Colonels won the game and the bragging rights as they defeated Patrick Henry for the second time this season by a score of 42-38.  Junior point forward Shayla Vance missed the first game against the Patriots and didn't quite get to finish this one, but she made her presence known  with her first double-double of the season.  Shayla had 13 points and 13 serious rebounds before she fouled out of the game.  Sophomore forward Brandi Smith added 11 points, 7 rebounds, and three steals.  Senior forward Cirrea Bonds not only socred 8 points, but also had 3 steals and 12 good defensive plays while getting only 2 fouls.  Freshman center Sidra Johnson came off the bench to score 4 points, snatch 3 rebounds and block 4 shots.  Sophomore center Kim Foster had 4 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and a clutch lay-up to stifle the PH 4th quarter rally.  Senior guard Marcia Sullivan chipped in 2 points and a steal.  The Patriots' box and one defense held senior guard Ashley Simmons to 2 points, but couldn't stop her 4 assists, 2 blocked shots and a steal. Senior guard Janee Jennings had no points at all, but her refusal to be intimidated in an intense fight for possession of the ball didn't just get her ejected from the game. Her actions caused her team to unite as a TEAM which is how they finished the game...PLAYING AS A TEAM!!!

Fleming vs. Alleghany
1-26-06

In a close game which was tied at the end of the first two quarters, the Lady Colonels came out strong in the 3rd quarter and even stronger in the 4th to win by a score of 60-53. Fleming played a tight 2-3 zone which challenged the Mountaineers to beat them from the outside with their 3-point sharp shooters. The stingy interior defense of Kim Foster, Sidra Johnson and Brandi Smith limited their taller opponents' scoring in the paint and forced the Mountaineers to beat them from the outside with the lower percentage shot.  Fortunately, for the Lady Colonels, the game plan worked.  Janee Jennings returned from her mini-break to lead the offense with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.  Point guard Ashley Simmons controlled the offense with 9 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and a blocked shot. Jazmine Carter came off the bench to score 8 points, grab 2 rebounds, steal a pass and dish off an assist.  Sade Robinson chipped in 7 points, a rebound and a steal.  Brandi Smith also had 7 points, plus 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Sidra Johnson didn't look like a freshman as she scored 6 points, snatched 5 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.  Kim Foster claimed the "Chairwoman of the Boards" title with 13 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 4 steals, and 4 points.  Shayla Vance used her limited playing time to score 2 points, yank 2 rebounds, steal a pass and reject a shot.
