The smell of burning plastic rose up over the grounds of Leavitt today, as the intrepid whifflers went out into the snow covered fields to Whiffle like only they know how.  Eddy J would have been proud to see his game being played with so much honour by so many on this crisp late October afternoon.  No fewer than five games were played today as both the Western league, and League Eastern teams battled it out at the main Cafeteria Whiffling Grounds.  The action started with Rheal Mhen Whiffle taking on the Killer Bee's in their first ever season game.  The Mhen were victorious 11-2 in a competitive match.  This was only the start of the day however.  Next up on the Cafeteria Auxiliary Field The Angry Whifflers started their season by lining up against Entropy Union.  The Angry Whifflers were more the whooping whifflers, as they let out victorious shrieks at every run scored in their 8-0 defeat of Entropy.
Meanwhile in Western action AFA defeated Chewin' Chewy on the wind swept plains of Field Hockey Field.  It was a high scoring 12-7 game featuring lots of hitting, high risks plays in the field and a generally high energy atmosphere.
In the second half of the days games Chewy had no better luck in losing to Ridiculous 14-2.  Chewy did take some comfort in knowing that only the day before Ridic had been on the short end of an 18-2 score, showing clearly that this league's teams are capable of huge swings in just a days time.
Finally in the marque matchup of the day AWOL took on the Bee's.  With a crowd of at least 15 people watching from 3 locations (outside, inside and in the science sky box above) AWOL won an exciting 7-6 come from behind victory.  The game featured huge momentum shifts, close diving slides, power, and finally a photo finish victory.  The rematch between these teams next week could easily be the highest attended regular season matchup of the year.  All and all one of the most action filled days in LAWA history and one that will sure to generate much talk, and hype on the message boards tonight.

This cool Japanese cartoon character (Bad Badtz-maru) in his super cool space suit suggests ever so slightly that you place your arrow over him so that he might show you his farm of honour.  AT SUNSET!  WOW!
