League Eastern Outslugs West in All-star Tilt
(West says that they should have extra ball, flippers weren't working correctly)
AFA Holds Off Killers, Story of the Birds and Bee's finally ends
11/21/05
In yet another historic LAWA day the playing of the first ever all star game, and the second ever homerun derby took place.  The all-star game featured the best of the leagues that was after school and wanted to play today.  The east featured the beasts of the Bee's KBuzz and Cdubb, as well as Jamos, and Idavis.  For the West they had the newly named DeeZee, Toyle, El-Mil, and Bpark.

In true all-star game fashion, the action was fast and furious with the pitchers throwing strikes, and the batters hitting jacks.  The homeruns were too numerous to mention all of them but several blasts by Jamos got the East off to an early lead.  Then DeeZee led the West back into the game with his THREE round trips fares around the basepaths.  It wasn't all offense however as Timmy Doyle in a limited role in the field actually made a kick assist to a teammate who then threw davis out in the second inning to end an Eastern threat.  This play was a true highlight reel play that led the many thousands of uncounted fans to silently and invisibly give doyle a rousing standing ovation.

However this was not to be the West side's day no matter how many of the reigning champs were on the roster.  The East led by Davis' very exhilerating joy ride to the cycle held the day.  After a top of the fifth double to complete the cycle Davis celebrated by pulling up the base from the ground and taking it home to his house to have mounted in his trophy display case.

After the delay of his walking home and back a final West threat was put down by Davis in the fifth when a croaching Davis threw his famous hidden dragon pitch at Parkin.  Parkin then reached back and with all his power bunted towards the mound. He quickly came out of his crouch and glided on a cool breeze to first.  Parkin however was not happy with no bunt single, as the wind in his hair was too comforting a feeling for him to give up after one base and he sprinted full out towards second where he was gunned down by an Angry Witham.  After the play Witham could be heard to say "hey i'm just glad i final threw SOMETHING that hit SOMEONE today".

All and all a delightful end to a spectacular day at the whiffling grounds.  Post game Davis was awarded the MVP of the affair, on a close ballet over teammate Jeff Ramos.  This was in the middle of a display of power put on by the stars of the league in the annual homerun derby.  This came down two of the premier players in the league, and veterans of the 03 season.  Finally Ramos was down to his last out in the final round trailing Doyle 3 homeruns to 1.  With the ball broken he seemed to be out of luck.  It is not known if Ramos' bat swelled three times that at bat, but somehow he came through with the power he needed to hit not one, not twice, but thrice homeruns in the clutch and win the derby.  The furthest of these shots was hit over 28 paces (not quite the 37 pace shot DeeBuzz hit off Davis in the real game, but quite a shot none the less).  Truly a beautiful end to a beautiful 05 season.
11/21/05
Finally the reign off Team Bush is over.  After two years as champions of a league that by design plays to seasons a year, finally a new worthy champion can be said to preside over LAWAnation.  In a thrilling game that deserves a captivating 3,000 word story to describe AFA defeated the Killer Bee's by a score of 10-9.  How to describe a game like this is the dilema however.

Does one focus on the crowd and carnival atmosphere? One could tell of the costumed mascot, the over 56 fans, the raffles, smoke machines, warm up music, and many other angles of the fan story.  This article however will not do that.

Does one approach the game from a strict sports angle.  You could compile the stats of the players, tell of who had the mightyest average, the most homeruns, the fastest pitch, the best play in the field.  But no somehow that does not seem to do justice to the game either.

Ok then perhaps this game needs to be told from a much different angle.  The drama of the comeback, the disputes among teams, and among teammates, the family connections, the battle of man vs. the elements.

But somehow that does not seem to fit either.  So i guess the only thign to say is......... AFA won 10-9.
Leavitt Comes Down with a Case of the Whiffles
10/26/05
The smell of burning plastic rose up over the grounds of Leavitt today, as the intrepid whifflers went out into the snow covered fields to Whiffle like only they know how.  Eddy J would have been proud to see his game being played with so much honour by so many on this crisp late October afternoon.  No fewer than five games were played today as both the Western league, and League Eastern teams battled it out at the main Cafeteria Whiffling Grounds.  The action started with Rheal Mhen Whiffle taking on the Killer Bee's in their first ever season game.  The Mhen were victorious 11-2 in a competitive match.  This was only the start of the day however.  Next up on the Cafeteria Auxiliary Field The Angry Whifflers started their season by lining up against Entropy Union.  The Angry Whifflers were more the whooping whifflers, as they let out victorious shrieks at every run scored in their 8-0 defeat of Entropy.
Meanwhile in Western action AFA defeated Chewin' Chewy on the wind swept plains of Field Hockey Field.  It was a high scoring 12-7 game featuring lots of hitting, high risks plays in the field and a generally high energy atmosphere.
In the second half of the days games Chewy had no better luck in losing to Ridiculous 14-2.  Chewy did take some comfort in knowing that only the day before Ridic had been on the short end of an 18-2 score, showing clearly that this league's teams are capable of huge swings in just a days time.
Finally in the marque matchup of the day AWOL took on the Bee's.  With a crowd of at least 15 people watching from 3 locations (outside, inside and in the science sky box above) AWOL won an exciting 7-6 come from behind victory.  The game featured huge momentum shifts, close diving slides, power, and finally a photo finish victory.  The rematch between these teams next week could easily be the highest attended regular season matchup of the year.  All and all one of the most action filled days in LAWA history and one that will sure to generate much talk, and hype on the message boards tonight.
Lawa's back Around Again
10/25/05

As soon as we all thought Lawa would never be played again with the loss of Dane Despres and Todd Robbins, the sport of Whiffle ball is back. Isaiah Davis launches a brand new season of LAWA with the opening day set to be on October 24th. Isaiah brings back the legendary Rheal Mhen Whiffle (rHmHwH) recruiting new players (Jeff Ramos, Jeff Beam, Chris Rybeck, and the great Alex Cutter's younger brother Eric). rHmHwH is not holding back and is set to bring on the new teams that have been welcom to LAWA. Its going to be an exciting new season, and we are all eager to see who will win the championship.
