Forgiveness

LAURELINA is pacing outside the Infirmary, where Hithil lies unconscious from a head wound, when Springald comes along.

SPRINGALD
Lina, hey... whats wrong?

LAURELINA
That... that... stupid... idiot of a hare!

SPRINGALD
(catches Laurelina and faces her)
Oh, Lina, dont say that. Hes not stupid.

LAURELINA
Yes he is! Look what he did to me! To Brocky!
If it werent for him, shed still be alive!

SPRINGALD
Lina, Brocky knew it was her time. She died because she had hope.
She had a cause to keep fighting for. One to die for.
Are you going to let that cause die because shes not here?

LAURELINA
(sobbing) You dont understand. Shes the only one Ive ever loved.
And now Ive got nothing, and no one.

SPRINGALD
But I do understand.

YOU MUSTN'T BE REVENGEFUL
THOUGH REVENGE SEEMS SO STRONG
BECAUSE REVENGE WILL LEAD TO EVIL
YOU MUST RETURN RIGHT FOR WRONG.

LAURELINA
Hed never do that to me.

SPRINGALD
IT'S NOT HARD TO HOLD A GRUDGE
BUT IF YOU LET LOVE ENDURE
WHEN KINDNESS IS YOUR JUDGE
YOUR HEART WILL STAY PURE.

LAURELINA
My heart cant be pure now that shes gone!

SPRINGALD
FORGIVENESS,
A VIRTUE OFTEN IGNORED
FORGIVENESS, WHEN YOU FEEL WEAK
WILL BE A GREATER REWARD.

LAURELINA
Theres nothing to reward me!

SPRINGALD
WHEN DETEST EATS YOU UP
WHEN YOUR HEART FEELS TOO SMALL
WHEN YOU CAN'T HELP BUT CRY
YOU MUST DO NOTHING AT ALL.

FORGIVENESS,
A FEELING YOU MUST ALLOW
FORGIVENESS, LOVE THROUGH YOUR PAIN
AND THAT WILL SAVE HIM NOW.

FORGIVE HITHILL
HE'S DONE NOTHING WRONG
FOR IF YOU WILL
YOU WILL PROVE YOU'RE STRONG.

I UNDERSTAND YOUR GRIEF
BROCKY WAS GOOD AND TRUE
BUT IF YOU FORGIVE THAT HARE
SHE WOULD BE PROUD OF YOU

FORGIVENESS,
A VIRTUE OFTEN IGNORED
FORGIVENESS, WHEN YOU FEEL WEAK
WILL BE A GREATER REWARD

There is a time when we all must die, and in the Dark Forest, all the hate and pain and suffering goes away and those that we have forgiven will lead us safely to rest by the sunny slopes and quiet streams.

YOU MUST NEVER LOSE FAITH
YOU MUST NEVER LOSE HEART
LINA, JUST TRY TO TRUST.
AND I KNOW YOU'RE AFRAID
I'M AS SCARED AS YOU ARE
BE WILLING TO BE BRAVE,
BRAVE ENOUGH FOR LOVE.

Springald reaches over and hugs Laurelina, and she finally relents to her friend's comforting.
