Main Characters

Laurelina Windsong, called Lina by her friends, is a young squirrelmaid who was born in northern Mossflower, but grew up at the abbey where she met her best friend, Brockrose. A good traveler and a deadly fighter with her glaive, she and Brockrose have wandered the country together for the past ten seasons. But Brocky was just killed in the battle at Salamandastron, and Laurelina begins her journey to Redwall after so long away from it, broken-hearted, bitter, and greiving.

Hithil is a stately hare from a wealthy family who was spoiled rotten when he was young. He was sent to Salamandastron, but was so snobby, incompetent, cowardly, and traitorous that he was expelled in the middle of the battle, shortly before Brocky died. He latched onto Laurelina as she left the moutain, and followed her to Redwall, even though they both seem to loathe each other.

Springald is a very young squirrelmaid who grew up at Redwall with her mother. She is simple and naive, until the day when her mother, afflicted by a terrible illness, begins to loose her memory. Forced to deal with a mother who cannot recognize her, Springald becomes a very caring, gentle, and understanding creature.

Mossa Silverback is a young badgermaid who mostly lives at her house in Mossflower, not too far from Redwall. She is a paranoid perfectionist who bosses everyone around, including her pal Anubis. However, she also is very fair, caring, and responsible, which has earned her respect from elders, if not from her peers. And she's a complete helpless romantic.

Anubis is an arrogant moody fox who hangs with Mossa. He is quite temperamental, but can be very brave and noble when he chooses. He is also a fair fighter, and a very skilled healer.
