The grounds of Hogwarts are bathed in the setting sun of late june. Voices drift out from the Great Hall during dinner as ARIA slips out the front doors and down the lawn to a white tomb near the lake. She kneels by it, holding a lily, and lays it on top of the mass of flowers and tokens already beside the grave.
ARIA
SIR, I HAVE BROUGHT YOU A LILY TODAY
FOR THE ROSES WERE FRAIL AND THE PETALS FELL AWAY
THE DEMENTOR MIST HAS KISSED YOUR GRAVE
REST NOW IN SLEEP, MY SECRET WILL KEEP
TILL WE SPEAK AGAIN, TOMORROW
WHEN I LAY MYSELF DOWN TO SLEEP TONIGHT
I PRAY I MIGHT
KNOW WHY MY LIFE IS TEMPERED, IN ALL WAYS
NOT WITH HAPPINESS, BUT WITH SORROW
LET THE WORLD FORSAKE ME
LET THEM DO THEIR WORST
I WILL WITHSTAND IT ALL
THEY WILL NOT BREAK ME
THERE IS ANOTHER WORLD THAT WATCHES ME
IM STILL AFRAID
CAN THEY KNOW WHY I HAVE SINNED?
FOR I HAVE BEEN BETRAYED
During the interlude, she gets up from the grave and walks towards the castle steps, pausing on the last two lines of the song to stare over the grounds and the massive gates flanked by winged boars.
WHEN I LAY MYSELF DOWN TO SLEEP TONIGHT
I PRAY I MIGHT
IN THE DARKNESS SEE A SPARK OF HOPE
A GUIDING LIGHT
MY SECRET JUST WAITS
STILL UNTOLD, I WONDER
CAN IT GO BEYOND THESE GATES?
OH, WHAT DO I AWAIT?
She sadly takes a last, longing look at the white tomb and goes inside.
