PLACES OF VISIT IN MANGALORE CITY

Mangalore is a small place even though it has many interesting places. It has been a tourist attraction place for  many years. Mangalore has got some of the good hotels with comfortable Boarding and Lodging  for the tourists at reasonable prices. It  makes any tourist feel Home away from Home, that is the reason once visited would like to come back again and again.

Lets start with the BEAUTIFUL places you can visit when you come to Mangalore

SULTAN BATTERY
This is a fort located at a place called Boloor around 6 Km from the Mangalore city. This fort is surrounded by water from all the sides. One can see the beautiful roaring Arabian sea and the royal sun set in the evening. The entire fort is built in black stones and it is said that this fort was built my Tippu Sultan. The reason for building this fort was to prevent warships from entering the Gurupur river. But today the fort is a deserted place just reminding of the memories of the great ruler.
You can also see the fishermen mending their fishing nets and their colourful boats around the fort. You can also experience the rural Mangalore here..........there are very small houses mainly fishermen community, smell of the fish dried in the backyard, children playing on the sand and the women folks carrying on their  daily chores.
You can get there by auto which will not cost much, or by bus from the city bus stand (16 and 16A)

LIGHT HOUSE
This is situated in the heart of the city on a hill. Here is the light house hill garden called Tagore Park, a place for people of all ages. In the evening you can see children, teenagers and even old people come for a relaxed walk in the park. You can also witness a marvelous view of the sea from here, many come here in the evening to see the sun  set. Off late the park was renovated, now there are more flowering plants than before, more place for the children to play, lot of benches to sit  at various places.
