One of the best hotels in India.

English heritage can be seen on every corner. Sometimes it's all they have.

Some people lie down wherever they want...

017.Goa-Palolem_Beach.jpg

Tropical beaches, palm trees, girls, hippies and the cheapest bier in India - this is  Goa.

022.Goa-Colva_Beach.jpg
022.Goa-Colva_Beach.jpg

Autorickshaws can be seen everywhere throughout India.

Cows are everywhere, even on beaches. They are  extremely useful since they eat all garbage, even carton and plastic.

038.Panaji-Church.jpg
038.Panaji-Church.jpg

Goa can't hide its colonial history and christendom as the main religion.

044.Gokarna_Festival.jpg
044.Gokarna_Festival.jpg

It's easy to come across festivals, people like to pose for pictures. It's important to celebrate whatever. In this case they even had a cart with people dancing on techno music.

055.Kochin-Chinese_Fishing_Nets.jpg

These chinese fishing nets are still in use. It was probably my presence which caused a bad fish catch.

The guy in the middle invited me to spend a night in his house in the middle of a swampland. Thank you!

Fish hunting in muddy water by using a bow.

075.Backwaters.jpg
075.Backwaters.jpg

That's how people in historic times were travelling around the world.

076.Backwaters.jpg
076.Backwaters.jpg

Indian Venice is really interesting. It was raining cats and dogs a little bit later.

078.Backwaters-Hay_drying.jpg
078.Backwaters-Hay_drying.jpg

Slovene hay-racks are not so interesting and picturesque as in India.

A thank for these magnificient monuments goes to religious hindu-fundamentalism.

083.Madurai-After_Rain.jpg
083.Madurai-After_Rain.jpg

It's better not to imagine the situation in a monsun period. One longer storm left 20 centimeters deep water on streets.

089.Train_Madurai_to_Pondicherry-General_Compartment.jpg

Trains are normally totally full. These photo was taken in the general compartment, which is normally used by poor Indians. People were sleeping on the floor, side luggage-racks and in corridors during the night. But it was fun!

Recommended for visiting!

Tamil Nadu is a paradise for temple-enthusiasts. One of my favourite photos.

Wheels on the floor are not real, of course. The sausages hanging from the top roof are not for eating and are made of cloth.

114.Chennai.jpg
114.Chennai.jpg

It's too hot during the day for working. Lunch is traditionally served on palm leaves.

133.Chennai-Brahman_Wedding.jpg
133.Chennai-Brahman_Wedding.jpg

Guests invited to a wedding are allowed to eat before a new-married couple. The latter join at the end after being exposed on the stage like a trophy.

136.Chennai-Brahman_Wedding.jpg
136.Chennai-Brahman_Wedding.jpg

Mnjam, mnjam...  Neverending rows of sweets, fruits and vegetables. Strict vegetarian food without meat and even eggs.

138.Chennai-Brahman_Wedding-Food_Preparation.jpg
138.Chennai-Brahman_Wedding-Food_Preparation.jpg

A lot of workers are needed for wedding-food preparation.
