Trekking in Sikkim was interesting, but wet. A feeling of wilderness and strange sounds made by animals and birds.

Many footways in Sikkim are made of stones or/and concrete.

Stupas as symbols of Buddhism. These are built on the top of a conical hill beside a monastery. Excellent views over the   landscape.

Varanasi (Benares) on the river banks of holy Ganga. Burial in the river has a special meaning for Hindus. Normally 150 bodies are burnt every day in this open-air crematory (notice wood everywhere). Corpses of saddhus, babies, innocent girls and cobra's bite victims are thrown into the river as they are.

Indians bath in Ganga, which is extremely dirty. Sometimes even dead animal or human bodies float on the surface. Water is totally anoxic and the amount of faecal bacterias is 3000-times increased as it should be for save bathing (according to Western standards).

Heat during the day is unbearable. Cows and bulls retreat into water and a few joking men were trying to ride them.

Indians are amazing-although the majority is poor, they seem to be happier than we are. Just look at the inscription on the wall and try to understand their happiness.

Famous temples with in-stone erotic figures, running through a whole Kamasutra of positions and possibilities. Imagination is neverending, group sex and sex with animals is equally important!

After hours of getting lost again and again on the way through a jungle we attended my Indian's friend wedding. Guests came by bus, alcohol is normally not drunk.

According to my experience, whenever you come to an Indian village, there's someone who claims himself to be a boos or a leader. Can you guess from the photo who this should be?

For some of them I was the first white-man they have ever seen before. White skin complexion is supposed to be a beauty-ideal (like their brown for us) and many would like to have it.

Typical country village. Some people sleep by the side of this road during night bacause of  high summer temperatures.

Remnants still speak about past   greatness and power of Indian subcontinent.

Extremely hot temperatures during summer, it was about 47 degrees Celsius. Domestic pigs, which look like they were wild, are trying to cool down in sewage water.

315.Agra-Taj_Mahal.jpg
315.Agra-Taj_Mahal.jpg

The most famous sightseeing in India is really breathtaking. Many in-built semiprecious stones and expert details. Some architects later had their hands or thumbs amputated to ensure that the perfection of Taj Mahal could never be repeated.

Not to mention equality in India: foreigners pay 35-times more than Indians to enter the monument.

336.Amritsar-Golden_Temple.jpg
336.Amritsar-Golden_Temple.jpg

The Golden temple is situated in a nice Sikh's capital Amritsar. In the years 1984 and 1986 it was quite damaged by Indian army, which evicted Sikh extremists occupying the temple, demanding creation of an independent Sikh homeland.

Sikh temples are open to all people regardless of their caste and religion. Men wear typical turbans and are known as good soldiers.

Pilgrims are served with food and drink in a common kitchen.

347.McLeod_Ganj-Praying_Wheels.jpg

Dharamsala is where Tibetan government in excile found its place. Typical Buddhist praying wheels, which should always be rotated in a clock-wise direction.

Some Saddhus (people who gave up all material life in order to seek spiritual perfection) live in public baths. There is a source of hot water with smell of sulphur. In the evening I joined them for dinner, we baked a few chapatis (bread made of flour, salt and water).

Houses on the foothills of Himalaya (altitude 2050m) are not of the same type as in plain India, at least they demand better isolation.

359.Manali-Vashisht-Yogi.jpg
359.Manali-Vashisht-Yogi.jpg

This yogi on my right side is supposed to have been living for 10 years under this rock. The surrounding is gorgeous, crowned by a beautiful waterfall (photo 363). Indian hemp plants (marihuana) grow everywhere as weed and the yogi likes to smoke it with tourists.
