I was travelling in India from
25.4. until 13.7.2002. I was alone. April and May are the months of summer heat, in June
the monsun rain slowly covers India from SE. Because travelling in rain is not nice, I set
off to the South and then turned to the Northern part, where it normally starts raining a
couple of weeks later. I really had luck with sunny weather and temperatures up to 50
degrees Celsius. There were almost no mosquitos at all, they were supposed to had died
because of heat (according to Indians). So, no problems with mosquito born diseases like
malaria. Direction of travelling is marked on the map:

Current monthly
report about health problems and diseases in India (German). My advice: vaccination
against Hepatitis A, pills against diarrhoea (metronidasol), you can buy there everything
without problems. Anti-malaria pills are needed just in monsun and after-monsun
period (mosquitos), especially in NE (Assam). You can find information on diseases and
endemic areas by clicking the link above.
