The South. It is a land of agriculture, it has a culture of its own, and is often thought of as an opressor - but not an opressed.
In most minds, thoughts of the South elict visions of vast fields, small main street based towns, and friendly folks. But often, thoughts of the south bring about notions of a backwards people that make a party out of racism and oppression.


When many people thing of the southern people, they come up with mental images such as


This is an image that has been perpetuated by most major media and movie companies. A recent example is the movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou."

The movie is based in the 1930's but depicts many of the characters of the south as being backwards, uncouth, or racist. The supporting characters with the most wealth, class, and civility are not originally for the south.

This perception of the southern people continues today.
